NERPO AND DR. RUTH MOMPATI JOIN HANDS TO SUPPORT EMERGING FARMERS

The North West Department of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Development (DAERD); Honourable, the Executive Mayor of Dr. Ruth Mompati District Municipality, Councillor K. Lobelo as well as Mr. Aggrey Mahanjana, Group Managing Director of the National Emergent Red Meat Producers’ Organisation (NERPO), would like to join hands in cordially inviting the media to attend and/cover NERPO - Dr. Ruth Mompati Annual General Meeting (AGM) and Farmers’ Information Day.
NERPO - Dr. Ruth Mompati’s AGM and Farmers’ Information Day is a culmination of a joint-venture between NERPO and Dr. Ruth Mompati‘ Department of Agriculture , aimed at providing a much-needed and value adding support, education and training to all emerging farmers in the region.
The partnership will be put to test at a two-day event on Wednesday 03rd to the 04th of March 2010 when emerging farmers converge at Leniesdeel Boervereigsaal in Morokweng to use the rare opportunity to engage with the highly trained agricultural specialists, extension officers, livestock breeders and political heads from Dr. Ruth Mompati District municipality, on matters relating to challenges they face as farmers, and support programmes available to assist them in improving their farming.
The meeting will consist of AGM and presentations and discussions with specialists in grazing management, farm infrastructure, and livestock marketing and animal health. It will culminate in a livestock judging with prizes for the best heifer, cow/calf and bull on show
NERPO uses Farmers Information Days and Annual General Meetings as a platform through which the organization can touch-base with farmers’ experiences at grassroots while creating space for engagement, sharing of information and experiences between farmers and key role players in the agricultural, particularly the red meat industry.
NERPO is the official mouthpiece of the emerging livestock farmers who own about 40% of the country’s livestock but account for less than 5% of the red meat’s total market share. NERPO is determined to ensure that its members become major economic players in the commercial value chain of the red meat industry.
