2007 NORTH WEST FARMER OF THE YEAR PASSED ON

The National Emergent Red Meat Producers’ Organization (NERPO) has learnt with sadness of the passing away of the 2007 Farmer of the Year in the North West Province, Mr. Jacob Leburu Mphafudi (82) who was also a NERPO member. Mr. Mphafudi passed away on Monday 18 January 2010, at Montana Hospital following a short illness.
The Group Managing Director of NERPO, Mr. Aggrey Mahanjana had sent his condolences to the Mphafudi Family, NERPO members and all those affected by his death.
“We are troubled by the passing away of Mr. Mphafudi because in less than a month death has robbed us of yet another dedicated member who has always been prepared to support development initiatives, particularly those aimed at farmer support and development. As NERPO we have worked with Mr. Mphafudi during the Young Agribusiness Entrepreneurial Development Programme (YAEDP). We used to place trainee young entrepreneurs on farms because they are exemplary enterprises for practical experiential training in the faming business. The late Mphafudi offered his farms willingly and that was heartening. On behalf of all of us at NERPO I would like to extend our heartiest condolences to his family, our members and all those affected by his departure” Mahanjana said.
The late Mphafudi has been in the farming business for over 38 years and was a dedicated and thriving beef producer who started farming as an Afrikaner breeder and then converted to breeding with Bonsmara, Charolais and Simentaler. He was also a Chairman of Moretele Farmers’ Association and received numerous awards for his farming practice, the latest being the Livestock Farmer of the Year in the North West Province in 2007.
He also hosted numerous Farmers Information Days and Workshops on his farm the latest being on the 20th June 2008 followed by a Workshop on Bull selection on the 20th October 2009.
Members of NERPO, particularly those who come from the North West Province, are requested to pay homage and bid farewell to this farming stalwart at either his Memorial and/or Funeral Service, details of which are indicated below.
