NERPO/UMSOBOMVU 2ND GRADUATION CEREMONY AND THE LAUNCH OF SOUTH AFRICAN YOUTH AGRIBUSINESS CO-OP

The 28th of January 2005 is to mark another victorious occasion for the National Emergent Red Meat Producers Organisation (NERPO) in partnership with Umsobomvu Youth Fund as a second group graduates will have their certificates of competency conferred by the National Minister for the Department of Labour, Honourable Mr. Membathisi Mdladlana at CSIR, Pretoria at 09h00.

The graduation is subsequent to an intensive training and development programme called Young AgriBusiness Entrepreneurial Development Programme (YAEDP) initiated by NERPO in February 2003. The programme offers an opportunity to demoralized and vulnerable community of young agricultural graduates aged between 18 and 35 with academic theoretical knowledge, to acquire valuable skills in the technical, business and personal development aspects of the agricultural sector in order to contribute meaningfully in the mainstream value adding chain of the sector.

It is an initiative that aims to assist government in its mission to combat rocketing rates of unemployment while ensuring skills development for productive citizens. The programme has since its inception benefited young men and women who are now adding value in the formal job and business markets of the agricultural sector.

In the same vein, NERPO will at the same occasion launch a South African Youth AgriBusiness (SAYA) Co-operative, an initiative that is aimed at creating business and employment opportunities for the unemployed agricultural graduates with credible academic, technical, and business skills to streamline their expertise into the value adding chain of the agricultural sector. This initiative is recommitment by NERPO towards “creating an enabling environment for historically disadvantaged persons or communities to participate meaningfully in the broader framework of the Broad Based Black Economic Empowerment”.

In order to ensure accessibility of this golden opportunity NERPO is on a drive to launch these young agri-business co-operatives in all nine provinces.

This momentous occasion will be graced amongst others by the Honourable Minister for the National Department of Labour Mr. Membathisi Mdladlana, MECs for Agriculture from various provinces, the CEO of the Umsobomvu Youth Fund Mr. Moses Kekana, Executive Deans for the Faculty of Agriculture form various institutions of higher learning, Industry role players and many more.
