NERPO hosts its AGM - 18 Sep 2011
The National Emergent Red Meat Producers Organisation (NERPO) will host its two-day Annual General Meeting starting from Wednesday, 21 September at the St George Hotel, east of Pretoria. About 120 delegates, representing emerging farmers from different provinces are expected to attend the event.

NERPO calls on government to investigate why land beneficiaries resell their land - 02 Sep 2011
The National Emergent Red Meat Producers Organisation (NERPO) has learnt with shock news that black farmers including those who benefitted from land restitution are reselling their land.

The Minister of Rural Development and Land Reform, Mr Gugile Nkwinti was quoted in the media admitting that South Africa has reversed gains in its goal of transferring 30% of commercial farmland to blacks by 2014 after aspirant farmers resold land bought for them by the government.

Climate Smart Agriculture is the way to minimise risks posed by climate change - 05 Aug 2011
The Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fishers (DAFF) recently hosted a two-day conference on National Climate Change. It was held at the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) Convention Centre in Pretoria. It was attended by representatives of various organisations including government, non-governmental organisations, civil society organisations, business organisations, international bodies, institutions of higher learning, research bodies and media organisations.

Agricultural Commodity Associations call for unity amongst the farmers of South Africa - 10 Jul 2011
Farmer commodity associations would like to see unified agricultural unions in South Africa. This emerged at a recent meeting of major commodity associations held in Pretoria and attended by representatives of GrainSA, NERPO, Emerging Milk Producers' Organisation (EMPRO), South African Pork Producers' Organisation (SAPPO), Wildlife Ranching and Potato SA.

Brand new black emerging farmers association launched - 12 Apr 2011
With the establishment of the African Farmers� Association of South Africa (AFASA) today in Boksburg, Gauteng, developing farmers now have a new, powerful voice. This move was a result of an urgent interdict lodged by Mr Joe Gondo, supported by Mr Molefe Mokoene, Reverend Otto Mbangula and Ms Carol Motshegara to forbid farmers of South Africa to gather under the name of National African Farmers� Union of South Africa (NAFU-SA). In response to this interdict the African farmers of South Africa immediately signed a declaration to launch the new association. The launch of AFASA is the culmination of a yearlong consultation process with developing farmers country-wide to determine their need for an official structure that represents their interests.

President Zuma to address black farmers - 13 Mar 2011
Excitement is mounting for the re-launch of the National African Farmers' Union of South Africa (NAFU-SA) from 10 -12 April 2011 at the Birchwood Hotel & Conference centre in Boksburg, Johannesburg.

This elective conference is a culmination of an intensive 12-month consultation process with emerging farmers countrywide, to obtain their views on the necessity of a representative body for emerging farmers in South Africa.

NERPO commends the Minister for hands-on control of the FMD - 01 Mar 2011
The National Emergent Red Meat Producers� Organisation (NERPO) has commended the Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, Ms Tina Joemat-Petterson, for her hands-on control of the recent symptoms of Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD).

In a statement issued by the Ministry, it was reported that during a routine surveillance in the protection zone for the disease, the Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (DAFF) has picked up some suspect positive serological results for the FMD.

KZN sets the tone on the re-launch of NAFU-SA - 17 Feb 2011
The developing farmers of KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) Province have set the tone on the re-launch of the National African Farmers� Union of South Africa (NAFU-SA), as over 700 farmers successfully elected the first provincial leadership of NAFU-SA, in accordance with the resolutions of the Bloemfontein (Mangaung) Farmers� Convention. This tone-setting Provincial Elective Conference was held this morning at CEDARA Agricultural College near Pietermaritzburg.

NERPO welcomes the prioritization of the rural development and agrarian reform programme - 10 Feb 2011
In reaction to President Jacob Zuma�s State of the Nation Address delivered at the Joint Sitting of Parliament in Cape Town, the National Emergent Red Meat Producers� Organization (NERPO) has welcomed the prioritization of rural development and agrarian reform.



�NERPO has noted with great delight the prioritization of rural development and agrarian reform programme as one of government�s top five priorities of economic development. We will wait with bathed breath, for the relevant Ministers to pronounce on the finer details of the Comprehensive Rural Development and Agrarian Reform Programme, during their respective Budget Vote speeches�, so said the Group Managing Director of NERPO Mr. Aggrey Mahanjana.
